What is Whitework with colour embroidery?
Traditionally whitework (La Broderie Blanche) is done with white thread on a white background fabric, but I have added colour to define the white and add interest. I have called it Whitework with Colour to distinguish from pure Whitework embroidery. Stitches such as padded satin stitch next to dot stitch and laid stitch create pleasing textures and the use of colour contrasts so beautifully against the stark white - as seen in the examples below. This style of embroidery allows me to create more abstract, playful designs and is great fun to stitch. It is simple to learn and very addictive!
