Comfortable Stitching

I like to sit comfortably in my armchair whilst stitching and watch something on tv or listen to a podcast.  I add a soft cushion behind me to support my back and place a small cushion under my left arm.  The reason I do this is because we hold the hoop in the left hand and tend to hold this elbow close to the body whilst stitching, which places strain on the neck and shoulder.  By placing a small cushion under your arm, it forces your arm and shoulder out, into a more relaxed position.

I have a light on a floor stand that I can bend towards me and adjust to my needs, but you could also use a desk clamp or sit at a table with a table lamp.  Its important to feel comfortable and relaxed while you stitch, not tensed or in an awkward position that does not feel natural.  Here is an image to show you what I mean:

A.    Magnifying lamp is angled towards you, so that you don’t have to lean forward over it.

B.     Good posture with your back resting against the back of the chair.

C.     Small cushion placed under left arm (or right arm if you are left-handed).
